2012 $1000 Scholarship Winners
Jacob Pollock
Madison Academic High SchoolJacob is the son of Steve and Alison Pollock. He plans to attend the University of Memphis and major in political science and work in international economic development. Jacob is captain of Madison's debate team. He has worked in several political campaigns, is a peer tutor in math and science, and has been a volunteer for Earth Day 2010-12. He is also a student member of the school improvement committee. One of Jacob's references noted that "his involvement in community and even national affairs goes beyond what one would expect from a teen." All of his references highlighted his leadership ability.
Rachel Wynn Anderson
Trinity Christian AcademyRachel is the daughter of Brad and Kristi Anderson. She will attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and major in special education. Rachel has been on mission trips to Honduras, Guatemala, and Colorado and has volunteered with Room in the Inn,. She has organized a Christmas caroling group that sings at nursing homes. She also works with KITE (Kids Inclined to Excel), which is a school program for autistic children. About her experience, Katie wrote, "Others may see people with disabilities as throwaways and undesirables in our society, but to me they are treasures. The challenge they have in learning gives me the desire to teach."

Hunter Alan Phillips
Trinity Christian AcademyHunter Phillips, son of Alan and Julie Phillips, will attend Union University in the fall and major in Christian studies. Hunter is an Eagle Scout and a member of O.A. He has held many leadership positions in his troop. He has volunteered for Room in the Inn, RIFA, Hopeful Living, and Area Relief Ministries. For two summers, he has been a summer camp counselor at Covenant Ranch in Buchanan.
The Faith and Fellowship Award is presented in loving memory of Dylan Kirk
Dylan, son of Scott and Cindy Kirk, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the age of eighteen. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Holden and Grayson.
Dylan was a 2011 graduate of Trinity Christian Academy and was a member of the first TCA baseball team to qualify for the state tournament. He was an All-District player and was selected to the West Tennessee All-Star squad that played an exhibition at Pringle's Park. Dylan was a member of three Madison County Dixie youth baseball teams which qualified for the state tournament. At the time of his death, he was a freshman at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, where he was majoring in pre-law. Dylan was an active member of Fellowship Student Ministries at Fellowship Bible Church of Jackson. During high school, he was active in his school's Young Life Group.

Sacred Heart of JesusKatie is the daughter of Ranger and Lisa Buchanan. Katie intends to better the lives of others by working in the medical field. She has volunteered with RIFA, Room in the Inn, Brown's United Methodist Youth Group, and the Star Center. She has also been a peer tutor in English, Spanish, geometry, pre-calculus, and chemistry. Katie credits one of the homeless men being served by Room in the Inn as helping her understand how much of an impact that she can make in someone else's life.
Whitney is the daughter of Adam and Laurie King. Whitney intends to major in agriculture education. One of her favorite volunteer activities is working with other FFA members as a student mentor for South Elementary's May Day Field Day. She has also participated in volunteer activities as a member of South Jackson Church of Christ's youth group and as a member of her school's Beta Club.
Brooke is the daughter of Lee and Michelle Towater. Among her many other volunteer activities, Brooke volunteers at the Faith Health Clinic, and she intends to be a nurse. She states that "if we do not make our lives productive, we have wasted a precious gift... We forget that every day counts. We have no free days.... We are put on this earth for a purpose."
Meg is the daughter of Wayne and Lisa Rushing. Meg intends to major in either social work or Christian studies. She is a member of the Northbrook Church Sunday morning praise team and helps with the first and second grade Sunday School class. She also helps with a girls' Bible study and morning worship group at school. One of the ways that Meg has made an impact is by being part of two mission trips to Albania where she helped in a women's prison and taught Bible lessons to children.
Bradley is the son of Tom and Sandy Jones. Bradley is an Eagle Scout and a member of O.A. He has 12 Palms and 99 merit badges, and he has earned all four religious emblems from the National Committee for Catholic Scouting. He received his school's Community Service Award for 2010 and 2011.
